Throughout the year a lot changes, but the one thing which doesn’t change year on year are my ‘Festive Film Favourites’. These films are my go to Christmas movie choices, from old classics to new found favourites, this list has a little something for everyone to enjoy.
All of these films are perfect to watch as part of an ‘Ultimate Christmas Cosy Day’ and with some delicious festive ‘Gingerbread treats’ too.
1. The Grinch:
This wouldn’t be my favourites list without ‘The Grinch’ appearing, the old classic film is of course amazing but I also thoroughly enjoyed watching the new one in the cinema a few weeks back too. It has everything you could want, some festive spirit, lovable ‘Who’s’ and ‘The Grinch’… There’s always one in the family!
2. The Polar Express:
This movie is one I always, sort of, forget exists when it comes round to picking a Christmas film to watch but when I do remember, I wonder how I ever forget it. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t want to be those children running round the workshop trying to find their present! Is it just me who always get a little bit emotional too when ‘Hero Boy’ finds out the silver bell Father Christmas gave him has fallen out of his pocket?
3. Miracle on 34th Street:
This film is a festive favourite of mine for two reasons, one I absolutely love the film and the story it tells but two because over the years this film has become a part of a tradition for my family and I. Every year, on Christmas Eve, we all sit in front of the TV and watch this film and we all look forward to it – even though we have seen it more times than we can count.
4. Elf:
You’re a cotton headed ninny muggins if you don’t love watching the film ‘Elf’ at Christmas, Elf literally screams Christmas spirit and we all know we’d be the same if we were in his position. Remember everyone, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.
5. Love Actually:
If we ignore the heartbreak we all experience when we see Emma Thompson open her gift from Alan Rickman to find a CD and not a gold necklace, this film will always be a firm festive favourite. Whether you laugh along at there being more than one lobster in the Nativity or Rowan Atkinson accurately representing every gift wrapping shop worker over the festive season, this film doesn’t ever disappoint. If you’re like me, this won’t just be one you save for the Christmas season either, it’s definitely one you can watch all year round in my books.
6. The Holiday:
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate Jude Law and Mr Napkin Head in ‘The Holiday’… Okay, we can carry on now! Most people may watch this film and dream of the LA mansion which Amanda left behind but Iris’s cottage is absolutely beautiful and I can’t help but wonder how amazing it would be to live there. Hint it’s actually up for sale so if any of you are feeling super generous? This film has always been a favourite of mine for so many reasons and never fails to cheer me up or make me get into the festive spirit.
7: It’s A Wonderful Life:
This film is one of my Mum’s absolute favourites and rest assured every single year, at some point in early December you will find her sat in front of the TV watching ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ whilst writing Christmas cards ready to send. I love that these traditions have stuck and every year the same thing happens!
8: Arthur Christmas:
One for the adults and children to enjoy, Arthur Christmas is the perfect Christmas movie to stick on when you just want to relax and enjoy yourself a little. I’m always impressed year on year how Arthur and the Wrapping Elf manage to wrap the bicycle whilst they’re riding it down the hill – if only my wrapping skills were as impressive!
9: The Princess Switch:
A new addition to my list of festive favourites, you really can’t go wrong with this new Netflix film featuring High School Musical favourite Vanessa Hudgens. It is a Christmas film of dreams – a handsome Prince, a baking competition and two people who are completely identical and fall in love with the others friend / husband to be. It’s such a feel good film I’ve already watched it multiple times since it came out, I’m a sucker for the rom-com Christmas films!
10. The Santa Clause:
This older Christmas film never fails to make me feel festive and in the Christmas spirit with its comedy and all-round festive merriment. The only disappointing thing is realising that sadly this won’t ever happen to your Dad and you’ll never get to experience the magic of the North Pole like Scott and his family do. Although, I imagine it would be slightly terrifying to suddenly gain weight and grow a huge white beard!
I hope you have enjoyed my round up of ‘Festive Film Favourites’, I could have included so many more Christmas films but then this list would have been so long, you’d have fallen asleep and my fingers would’ve fallen off which isn’t very festive!

Thank you! Ah, Home Alone is a bit of a funny one for me, I enjoy it but I feel like I over watched it as a child and now don’t enjoy it as much! The first one is definitely my favourite out of them all though!

A lot of these are on my holiday viewing list too! However I haven’t seen the princess switch, will definitely have to check it out!
